NH FARMINGTON — Budget Committee seeks legal advice on school default budget. Finance Administrator Kelly Heon reported the town operating budget tracking at 32 percent spent through May 31, with revenues at 34 percent of budget and no significant concerns noted. Chairman Tim Brown raised questions about the school district's default budget, citing concerns that approximately $2 million in costs may not comply with state statute and that 16 positions involved in layoffs appeared improperly reincluded following the deliberative session.
The committee voted to authorize Brown, in coordination with Town Administrator Jason Henry, to request written legal advice from town counsel on the committee's standing to challenge the budget. The committee also appointed Tom Maciel to fill a vacant seat.
